Norfolk Birding Tour 24th – 27th April 2025
This tour was timed for the peak of Spring migration and we were rather fortunate to enjoy the legacy of a period of warm south-easterly winds which, while it didn’t produce that much in the way of passerine migrants, proved excellent for migrating shorebirds on their way to breeding grounds in Scandinavia and Russia. Whimbrel were passing in good numbers (we saw over 40 on 26th!) and there were some super smart Ruff and Black-tailed Godwit on the move too, as well as several Little-ringed Plovers and Common Sandpipers. On the passerine front, we did pick up a few Wheatears, two late Fieldfare and a special mention should go to Sedge Warbler, which seems to be back in superb numbers this year.
There were cameo appearances from two longer staying rarities – Glossy Ibis and a smart drake American Wigeon – and of course some of the more regular scarcer breeding birds such as Spoonbill, Hobby and Garganey. We enjoyed a full day in the Brecks too, notching up Woodlark, Firecrest and Stone Curlew, along others. See the full report by clicking HERE.
