22nd October 2019 – Exclusive days Guiding

With the wind from the SW, we started the day with a couple of hours visible migration at Hunstanton, which proved a good decision. Highlights and the best numbers as follows:-

Single Hawfinch, 2589 Chaffinch, 19 Brambling, 55 Greenfinch, 66 Siskin, single Redpoll, Tree Sparrow, 10 Rock Pipit & 36 Lapwing plus a Great Spotted woodpecker well out over the sea and therefore very likely a migrant.

We then headed to Holme where out in the dunes we scored well with a mixture of shorebirds, but the undoubted highlight was 5 Snow Buntings and a single Lapland Bunting.

From the Firs after lunch we witnessed several hundred Pink-footed Geese arriving in off the sea in numerous parties of 30-50 birds, plus several Red-throated Diver, Eider, Common Scoter, Red-breasted Merganser, 3 Goldeneye and the undoubted highlight an in off the sea Woodcock scoped and watched for 2-3 miles out low over the sea.

The day was neatly rounded off with 4 Twite, Spotted Redshank and a hunting Peregrine.
