9th March Norfolk One day  birdwatching tour - North Norfolk

Today we started in mid-Norfolk, & with success as 12 Hawfinches gave wonderful scope views in the tops of the trees, plus brief views of a male Firecrest.

Other noteable birds in the area were
40 Redwing, 70 Siskin, 3+ Treecreeper & 4+ Marsh Tit, 2+ Nuthatch, 2+ Great Spotted Woodpecker.

We then moved on to another Brecklands site where we saw 20 Crossbill.

Other  birds during the afternoon at other breckland sites were 40 Brambling, 1 Bullfinch & 3 Marsh Tit.


16th March Norfolk Two day Winter birdwatching tour - North Norfolk


The day started with two lovely
Barn Owl seen en-route from B&B to Wells.

We started the day at Wells boating lake, where there was
4 Scaup plus Tufted Duck for comparison, also Little Grebe.

At Wells harbour and channel, there was a nice mix of commoner waders
Ringed Plover, Grey Plover, Redshank, curlew, Turnstone etc, plus Brent Geese, Skylark and Linnet nearby at the pitch and putt. The  3rd Barn Owl of day was quartering fields,

We then headed on to Sheringham, where the 1st winter
Glaucous Gull was shwoing very well below the shelters on the groynes.
Also from here
2 Red throated Diver, 3 Fulmar on sea, plus a selection of gulls & flocks of Turnstones on rocks.

We then headed off to Salthouse here we had wonderful views of
c50 Snow Bunting, more Turnstones, and several Meadow Pipit, Skylark, Teal & Wigeon. On the sea we noted several Grey Seals.

At Cley we added a nice mix of waders & wetland species
Avocet, Black tailed Godwit, Marsh Harrier ( four), Golden Plover c100, Ruff, Brent Geese,Teal, Wigeon, great views of Bearded Tits and Reed Bunting. Also Marsh Harrier mobbing buzzard.

At Holkham there was just
25 Pink Feet left, but Eygptian geese, Marsh Harrier & yet another Barn Owl

Next stop Burnham Norton,
singing Cettis, Wigeon, Teal, fifth and sixth barn owls of day with the last seen very well. Also here 2 Barnacle geese, plus Redwing, Fieldfare, 2 Stonechat & Brown Hare.


17th March Norfolk Two day Winter birdwatching tour - South Norfolk

The started very successfully at Santon Downham with lots of
Crossbill & Siskin, several Treecreeper, 30+ Brambling, Redwing, 2 Sparrowhawks, Yellowhammer. Great views of Green Woodpecker and singing Woodlark. Also a Weasel was spotted briefly.

We then birdwatched around Lynford and saw lots more
Crossbills, plus Goldcrest, Coal Tit, Marsh Tit, Hawfinch, and Siskin.

Plus a nice mix of commoner woodland species.
4th March  Norfolk 1 day Winter bird  photography tour

Today I spent time providing tuition to a photographer wanting to improve his technique & fieldcraft. As well as evolving his photography skills during the afternoon we were also able to get some nice images of Turnstone, Teal & waders
