Titchwell 25th June 2006
I took a guided walk this morning at Titchwell. A nice surprise was a Willow Tit, regualrly coming to the feeders, this is the second of the year for me in Norfolk - this really has sadly become a rare breeding bird.
I also seem to be seeing/hearing far less Turtle Doves and Spotted Flycatchers this year - has anyone noticed the same??
There was a nice slection of the usual birddws at Titchwell, the rarest bird was a Spoonbill feeding at the back of the freshmarsh. There was a nice collection of a dozen or so Little Gulls, ranging from full summmer plumage through to 1st year birds.
A couple of Ruff almost had their full head dress, we missed Spotted Redshank & Greenshank that had been reported in the week, but had excellent close views of 2 Little Ringed Plover.
Others:- 4-5 Bearded Tit, 20+ Black-tailed Godwit, Little Grebe ad with 1 juv, 10 Teal & many young Reed Warblers.
Highlight for the visitors was dragonflies rather than birds with full frame scope views of Black-tailed Skimmer sat on the boardwalk (see pic below) & Four-spotted Chaser
