20th August - Just Back from the Birdfair! Choseley & Roydon Common
Today was earmarked for working with Norfolk Wildlife Trust showing birds & Owl pellets to youngsters, but I did manage to squeeze in a
a quick 40 minutes at Choseley where a superb and unusual auatumn trip of 29 Dotterel were present. On arrival the birds were tucked down in the stubble, screening from the blustery westerly wind. However, eventually they got up and walked around, we estimated 25+ Dotterel, superb, unfortunately a car sped by and the road noise was enough to put them up - this did give chance for an accurate count
27ads and 2 juvs, ending the counting speculation!! They were relocated and many more people enjoyed them through the day.
Whilst working at Roydon, a few birds were noted:-
Nice flush of 50 House Martin, and also a few late Swifts 18 in total, all these birds moving west were also accompanied by a steady slow passage of Swallows.
Also 3 juv Marsh Harrier, 1 Buzzard, 4 Wood Lark, 1 Snipe, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 kestrel, & 1 Whimbrel

23rd August - Holme 1630 - 1900 Overcast 8/10. 2-3 west
Managed to finish work at Holkham abd slip off a little early for 2+ hrs of birding, nothing amazing, but a nice little westerly passage, with a few decent birds!
I started at Redwell:- 2 Turtle Dove and 6 Teal.
Most watched, and noticeable was a steady passage of 250 Swift, starting as a trickle and gathering momentum until I had birds all around me, so close I could pick out the scaly juv's as they flew below me. Amongst the aeriel activity 20+ Sand Martin, 40+ House martin and 200 Swallows added to the spectacle and kept me busy, including 100 perched in the brambles - all this sttod at Gore Point.
Amongst the hive of activity I added further birds all on the move going west:- 4 Yellow Wags, 19 Whimbrel, 1 Turtel Dove & 2 Green Sand. A further 20 Whimbrel were feeding over in the fields.
The sea also added 202 Common Terns, in groups of 12, 40 and 1 large group of 150, which also contained a Black Tern, all of these passed west. An adult Med Gull flew close by and rounded off a productive evenings birding
